What is the difference between Taiji, Tai Chi, Taichi and T’ai Chi?

What is the difference between Taiji, Tai Chi, Taichi en T’ai Chi?

The spelling is different but these words have the same meaning. The variations are the result of the use of different systems to translate thousands of characters from Mandarin to English with only 26 letters.

The old Wade – Giles translation system (1912) gave us Tai Chi, and Chi Kung. Many books have been written about these subjects at the time that this translation system was used, which means that this spelling is still widely used.

The most modern translation system is the Hanyu Pinyin system (1979). This gives us Taiji (Taiji 37) and Qigong (Taijiwuxigong).
